Who Left the Freezer Open?

Look at that–an empty freezer.  Apparently, while we were gone on vacation, our kittens thought it would be fun to open our freezer and leave it open. Don’t ask me how they did it!  The next day, my mom (who was looking in on our kittens) walked in to find all of our food unfrozen and our ice cubes melted.  What rascally kittens we have!

This meant that we definitely needed to go grocery shopping.  I had gotten a gift card to Trader Joe’s from Santa, so Josh and I headed over there to get some food.  We came back with quite the load.

Really, we could have used more.  But since Josh is heading to Ohio to visit his family next week, we thought this would be enough to last for a good two weeks.

I wasn’t able to make dinner until 8-ish, so it was quick.  The theme was arugula. I made a Garlic Naan Arugula Cheese Bread with an arugula salad (arugula, feta, red pepper Italian dressing, and tomatoes) on the side.

The meal was protein packed.  One piece of Trader Joe’s naan has 8 grams of protein! With the cheese and the arugula (it’s a surprisingly decent source of protein if you eat enough of it), I felt rather full afterwards.

I paired my dinner with a glass of red wine.

And for dessert, a clementine–they are definitely at their peak right now!

Now, the boyfriend and I are watching the extended version of Avatar on Blue-ray.  It’s a stunning movie to watch, and I’m loving some of these alternate scenes!

  1. Ha! I thought you were going to write about cold weather or something. That is really amazing! Good thing your mom came by before your freezer killed itself trying to freeze your whole place. And, now you can cross “clean out the freezer” off your new year’s resolutions. ;-)

  2. Oh no! What pesky kitties! It’s pretty funny though :)
As Coco said, a clean freezer – you’re starting with a blank slate for the New Year! I always find all kinds of random old stuff cluttering up my freezer when I clean it out, problem solved for you..!
Happy 2011, I hope it holds great things for you, and I look forward to reading about them!

  3. I love the idea of arugala and cheese on naan!!!! Such a great idea I never thought of!

Also, did you loveeee Avatar?? I so did!

  4. Isn’t it funny what pets are capable of getting into? Whenever my parents dog pays my beast of a dog a visit for some reason they find some mystery stash of golf balls. Haven’t figured out where they are coming from but it’s so weird…
